OUR BEGINNINGS WERE HUMBLE
In 2013, we built a chicken coop in our cramped backyard in Southern California. Our neighbors thought we were crazy. We were determined to create a sustainable food source for our family. When we moved across the country to gorgeous Franklin Tennessee we took our hens with us - packed in a DIY coop in the back of our SUV. Ok, maybe we are a little crazy.
In our new house, we had almost 10 acres of wooded land to play with and knew we wanted to add more animals to our sustainable living project. We purchased two Nigerian dwarf does because of their renown for producing great tasting milk and having wonderful temperaments. It was a perfect fit even though trying to milk a goat with only youtube as your guide, was not so inspiring. We added more does and now have a small herd of 12. Many of our does were born on our farm. What an amazing experience that was! We've also added three llamas and plan to breed them later on.
In March 2020, we will be breeding some of our girls. We will be expecting babies in August. We are a CAE, CL, and Johne's negative herd. We participate in the ADGA Plus program.
